Safe Campuses Now presents Chris Sandy and Eric Krug.  Two real life stories demonstrating the life impact drinking and driving can have.

featuring Chris Sandy
Seven years ago, Chris Sandy was a normal 22-year old kid.  That normal life came to an abrupt end on the evening of April 11, 2000 when Chris decided to go to a party, have four mixed drinks, and drive down a country road outside of Atlanta...

Ten years ago, Eric Krug was a standout baseball player at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia.  He was a typical college student...enjoying life, hanging out with friends and having a good time.  But this life that Eric knew came to an abrupt and horrific end on the night of April 11, 1997...

That's Not Safe.  That's Stupid.

Although safety is a very serious issue we would like to take a moment to show a few odd, unusual, misunderstood, and possibly perceived as simply stupid instances that have taken place where safety was definitely not the most important issue to the group or individual in the situation.

These stories are real, nothing is made up.  Most of the articles are local incidents in Athens, Georgia.  We will keep everything completely anonymous but will reference any resources or online links when necessary.  Please take a moment to read through a few stories that should serve as examples to not replace safety with stupidity.

Police say driver tried to bribe officer

Story updates on Friday, July 13, 2007

A man tried to buy his way out of a drunken driving charge early Thursday by offering an officer a bribe, Athens-Clarke police said.

The officer stopped 21-year-old So-And-So's car about 2 a.m. after the officer saw it weaving on Lexington Road near Cherokee Road, police said.

So-And-So, whose breath smelled of alcohol, told the officer "I'll give you anything you want," according to police, and asked, "If I gave you $800 right now, would you let me go?"

While driving So-And-So to jail, the officer saw the man reaching into the back of his pants and putting something into his mouth, police said.

So-And-So said he was eating feces to foil a DUI breath test, police said, but the officer noticed in So-And-So's mouth residue from a pill the man possibly chewed, police said.

The man consented to be taken to the hospital to have blood drawn for a toxicology test, police said.

So-And-So was charged with bribery, driving while intoxicated, following another vehicle too closely and failure to maintain lane, police said.
