"We're going to
do some damage, we're going to cause some pain.'' That was the
exhortation of University of Georgia police Sgt. Alex Tobar as he
demonstrated one way a woman might escape the grasp of a sexual
predator.
With a fellow UGA police officer holding him in a
headlock from behind, Tobar stomped on his ''attacker's'' foot and
twisted his way out of captivity.
''Once his mind is down here,'' Tobar said, pointing at
his partner's foot, ''it'll make things a little better for you.''
''We're not giving you a silver
bullet, we're just giving you options,'' he said. ''The goal is
survival, not winning.''
Tobar's class consisted of 44 women, nearly all of whom
were UGA students taking advantage of a program jointly sponsored by
UGA police and Safe Campuses Now,
an Athens-based non-profit organization that promotes student safety
through education and awareness.
